Les Moulins de Paillard

Moulins de Paillard residency programme is conceived as a space for experimentation for contemporary artists. Each resident benefits from a framework tailored to their project, fostering research, experimentation, collaboration, creation and professional development. Three main strands run through the programme: architecture, science and society.

WHAT'S INCLUDED

Visual artists in residence receive full room and board, access to the centre’s spaces and workshops (wood, metal, etc.), as well as support from the two artistic directors and the salaried team. A residency grant of at least €1,800 per month is also provided.
Depending on the programme or funding scheme, additional resources may be available, particularly in the form of production grants (for example, through the French Ministry of Culture’s Résidence en entreprise programme).

SELECTION PROCESS

To date, most artists come to Paillard for a residency at the association’s invitation. Some residencies may, however, arise from unsolicited applications when a project catches the attention of the artistic team. The introduction of an open call for projects is currently under consideration.

CONSIDERATION FOR RESIDENT'S FAMILY LIFE

Artists may therefore be accompanied by their families, subject to the availability of one of the two studio apartments. In such cases, contribution towards meal costs is requested. Unfortunately, our facilities do not allow us to accommodate pets.

RESIDENTS COMMITMENTS

There are no obligations or expected outcomes in return for the residency. When a specific programme includes public engagement activities and/or workshops, the artist is remunerated separately for each of these activities.

ACTIONS AIMED AT THE PUBLIC

At the artist’s request, the association may organise opportunities to share their work with the public, but these are in no way a requirement. On the contrary, the association is committed to preserving the residency as a period for research, experimentation and creation, which may remain entirely outside the public eye.
