Passages, contemporary art center of national interest

Passages develops an artist residency program connected to the art center's artistic programming and provides dedicated workspaces and accomodation for artists. The site also houses around ten studios belonging to the city of Troyes. In 2026, Passages received the “Contemporary art center of national interest” (CACIN) label by the French Ministry of Culture.

Residency “Season” : The residency is dedicated to research and experimentation. The context offers the opportunity for the development of a specific project, dedicated more to desk work than to studio practice. As such, Passages provides a space for creation and experimentation, capable of accommodating writing projects, poetry, research, translation, criticism, and more.

WHAT'S INCLUDED

— A residency grant of €1,000 per month ;
— On the first floor of the art center, a 100m2 apartment. The apartment has a large bedroom, a workspace, and basic living amenities (bathroom and kitchen). Bedding and linen are provided. However, the apartments are not equipped with studio materials or a specific area for messy work. Residents are responsible for the upkeep of the premises ;
— 4 return trips between their home and Troyes in train ;
— For artist collectives, a second apartment located on the same site may be made available.

DURATION

4 weeks over a 3 months periods, consecutive or not.

SELECTION PROCESS

Passages does not issue calls for projects. While these residency periods are usually organized by invitation, it is nonetheless possible to submit a specific project to the attention of the direction throughout the year. Collaborative practices are also welcome.

CONSIDERATION FOR RESIDENT'S FAMILY LIFE

The apartment is equipped with childcare facilities (crib, changing table, various baby gear, toys and so on) and can accommodate families. Childcare options (daycare, school, recreation center) are available.

RESIDENTS COMMITMENTS

The research undertaken during the residency can take a finished or unfinished form but will be presented to the public at the end of the residency through a discussion organized by the art center. This return is compensated at €200 (tax included).

ACTIONS AIMED AT THE PUBLIC

The contemporary art center supports mediation and visibility efforts, which are offered to the general public as well as specific partners of the art center (ESAT, ITEP, Child Welfare and so on).
